The Kano State Government has affirmed the death of nine individuals and damage of five others from an ongoing flood calamity in nine local government zones of the state.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SERERA), Alhaji Ali Bashir, unveiled this in a meeting with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday.

Bashir said five people lost their lives in Rimin Gado, three at Gabasawa and one in Getso town, Gwarzo Local Government Area.

"So on the whole, nine people lost their lives and five others maintained wounds in the fiasco. An aggregate of 4,475 individuals were influenced by the surge," the copyist said.

A nursing mother and her youngster were among those killed by a surge on Saturday in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, the state's Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) said yesterday.

The lady died with her child tied to her back, as per NSEMA Director General Ahmed Ibrahim Inga.

"We couldn't find out her character and where she originated from as no one appears to have known her," Inga said.

He said among the casualties was additionally a four-year-old young lady, Ummi Khaira, who passed on when a mud building where she kept running for shield alongside other youngsters crumbled on them in Rigasa zone.
