We Will Not Join ASUU Strike – OAU Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Eyitope Ogunbodede, says instructors of the college are not participating in the inconclusive strike pronounced by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Monday.

According to the vice chancellor, the teachers of the institution have no enthusiasm for the strike and would along these lines proceed with their scholarly exercises.

"OAU is not on strike. As at today, no teacher has disclosed to me that they need to go on strike. We are not taking part in any national strike," Mr. Ogunbodede revealed to PREMIUM TIMES on telephone.

"On the off chance that they reveal to me they need to go on strike, at that point it is an alternate case,

Thusly, I more likely than not seen that the majority of my scholarly staff need to go on strike.

"In OAU, we have 'unions'; neither of the two has disclosed to me they need to go on strike so we are not joining any strike whatsoever."

The Academic Staff Union of Universities split into two groups in OAU in 2016 after a gathering of the instructors declared the evacuation of Caleb Aborisade as the union's administrator, because of an emergency regarding the arrangement of Anthony Elujoba as acting bad habit chancellor of the college.

Mr. Aborisade and a gathering of educators were against the procedure that prompted the arrangement of the acting bad habit chancellor.

In spite of the fact that Mr. Aborisade declined to venture down after educators faithful to the acting bad habit chancellor reported his expulsion, they disintegrated the administration of ASUU and declared Niyi Sunmonu as executive of an overseer board of trustees in its place.

The national body of the union however remained by Mr. Aborisade and does not perceive the overseer board of trustees, demanding that its arrangement did not take after due process.

Amusingly, Mr. Elujoba has since been supplanted as bad habit chancellor and is presently confronting trial for asserted debasement, an advancement that has extended the emergency among instructors in the college.

Be that as it may, he appreciates the sensitivity of the new bad habit chancellor who has been activating help in the college against Mr. Elujoba's trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Until the emergency, OAU had a standout amongst the most persuasive sections of ASUU.

The guardian advisory group of the union is required to toe the line of the college administration over the current across the country strike of ASUU.
